This edition is brimming with updates—new trustees joining the team, ways to lend a hand, and surprise postcard from our favourite late spring visitor to the wood.
We’re excited to share how things are progressing in Buckenham Wood, with funding secured from the Greater Norwich Growth Board that will help preserve and enhance Buckenham Wood for generations to come. Our trustees have been working closely with experts, shaping a vision for the wood that balances conservation and community. We will be sharing their advice with you at upcoming open forums and a brand-new website page.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We look forward to sharing the woodland’s future with you!
The trustees have been seeking expert advice from key stakeholders, tree specialists and ecologists on how we should manage the wood now and into the future to achieve our charitable aims. The funding secured from the Greater Norwich Growth Board will be spent over the next year and will fund vital improvements to Buckenham Wood. BAWT will be sharing the advice and guidance it has received from professional ecologists and stakeholders such as Broadland District Council. We are planning to hold some public events where we will share the management plan with the community in person (see below).
We will be creating a dedicated website page in the coming weeks which will be kept updated as work in the wood is carried out. We hope that it will be a useful source of information for everyone looking to find out more about the woodland management plan. Look out for future updates on our website and in our upcoming newsletters.
If you are interested in finding out more about the Buckenham Wood management plan, the BAWT trustees have scheduled two dates where you can meet them and discuss the plan in person.
12th June: 17:00-19:00
Upstairs at Lingwood Village Hall
21st June: 15:00-17:00
Strumpshaw Community Hall
The Buckenham Ancient Woodland trust warmly welcomes two new trustees to the board. Caroline Davison has been volunteering with the trust from the beginning and has been responsible for ensuring BAWT has all the necessary policies and procedures in place to meet the legal requirements for a registered charity Her expertise and support have been instrumental in securing large grants that have enabled the trust to purchase and preserve the woodland. Robert Morgan was also volunteering with the trust before joining the board. Bob’s knowledge and passion for local wildlife will bring fresh perspectives.
Our next volunteer workday is planned for mid-July after the bird nesting has finished. Any volunteers who are registered with BAWT will receive a notification of the date via email - please look out for this in your Inbox. Dates will also be posted on our website.
Everyone is welcome. If you are not registered to receive one of our volunteer update emails, please sign up here (become a volunteer).
Volunteer workdays will continue throughout the year. These dates will also be circulated via email and be available on the BAWT website. Please come along, it's a great way to meet new people!
While walking in the woods you may have met one of our brilliant wood wardens preforming their vital role within the woodland. They regularly walk through the central plot of Buckenham Wood (the part managed by the trust), looking for and noting potential risks to both visitors and the wildlife which lives there. They can report any issues or concerns via a simple online system. So far the process and technology have been running smoothly.
We would like to extend a sincere thank-you to our wood wardens who are doing a wonderful job!
The sun was shining for this year's BAWT Bluebell Day!
Our trustees and volunteers were delighted to meet and welcome visitors to Buckenham wood on Sunday 27th April. They were able to share updates and news about the wood and listen to everyone's input and experience.
Thank-you to everyone who stopped to have a chat, find out more on our ‘past events’ page.
There is still time to submit your entries for our photographic competition. Our competition runs until 1st September 2025.
