We’re hosting a special guided walk day in the section of Buckenham Wood managed by us. It will be an opportunity to learn about Buckenham Wood, BAWT and the recent management work.
Why not join one of our guided walks — just like the Brundall WI group, who recently enjoyed one of our planned BAWT routes through the wood.
We are looking forward to meeting you, answering your questions and sharing more about the amazing flora and fauna of Buckenham Wood.
Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to join one of four guided walks, each offering a closer look at the wildlife of Buckenham Wood and the benefits we are already seeing as a result of the recent management works.
We hope that this event will spark conversation, share understanding and create new connections. Let's celebrate the future of Buckenham Wood together.

Funding from the Greater Norwich Growth Board (GNGB) project has supported the creation of a 10‑year Woodland Management Plan and a 20‑year strategic vision for the BAWT managed section of Buckenham Wood.
Our 10‑year Woodland Management Plan set out the initial work needed to restore the woodland and enhance its biodiversity. It put long‑term measures in place to support wildlife and improve access for visitors. The first phase of work was completed in 2025/26.
The plan also guides how we will care for the wood in the years ahead, including reintroducing traditional management techniques such as coppicing to maintain the more open canopy created during Year One. Future management will be more targeted than the major works carried out over winter 2025/26, but it remains essential for the long‑term health of the woodland.

We recently organised an extra volunteering day in addition to our usual woodland work day schedule. ‘Sycamore Pulling Day’ was a real success, with a great turnout and a lovely, upbeat atmosphere. Sycamore trees produce huge numbers of fast‑growing seedlings, and even after the recent drought the saplings were making a strong comeback — so tackling them together was important.
Everyone rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in, pulling up saplings before they could establish, close the canopy again, or compete with our veteran trees for water and nutrients. It was surprisingly good exercise too!
A huge thank‑you to everyone who joined us. It was productive, enjoyable and your efforts made a meaningful difference to the health of the woodland.

Usual tasks include pulling up more sycamore saplings, cutting back vegetation encroaching on paths or moving brash. 17–21 August, contractors will be completing important upgrade and maintenance work on the telecommunications mast. The works are fairly extensive and will involve:
Multiple contractors on site
A crane
Vehicles positioned close to the mast
Temporary footpath closures in the surrounding area
We appreciate your understanding during this short period of disruption.
BAWT purchased the woodland in October 2024, starting the hard work and financial commitment to maintain it. Let’s all get together to help ensure that the local community continues to benefit from our Ancient Woodland for generations to come.
